Official poster of Tapati Rapa Nui 2013
The Tapati Rapa Nui 2013 will be considerably different from the earlier ones. Normally, two queen candidates have their families fight for their representative to be crowned queen. This year, we will have only one queen candidate. Seven men will fight during the two week long festival for the honor of standing at her side at the end of this Tapati Rapa Nui. Families and friends will still support these men, but more focus will be put on their personal achievements than that of the queen candidates the earlier years. The men will be called hopu manu, relating to the traditions of the taŋata manu (birdman) competitions held at Orongo two hundred years ago.
